In 1994, the Northern Forest Lands Council, a 4-state body appointed by the governors of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont & New York and with federal involvement through the USDA Forest Service, issued Finding Common Ground: Conserving the Northern Forest and its 37 recommendations designed to assist in the conservation of the region's forests and forest-based economy.
The North East
State Foresters Association (NEFA) has organized a 24-member forum from
the four states to review the NFLC recommendations and ponder other actions
important today
to the region's
forests.
The key step in
the process is to hear what you have to say. The December 10 Conference
at the Mt. Washington Hotel in NH is designed to do just that, and to celebrate
the 10-year anniversary. Please mark your calendar and look
for registration materials in the mail or e-mail in October. And
please comment now on
the background paper produced for the project can be found at nefainfo.org.
